What is Candle Magick?
Candle Magick is a form of ritual or spellwork that calls upon the powerful element of fire to bring its fierce energy and unrelenting strength to a casting. Candle magick is the process by which we focus and store our own energy and magickal intentions within the wax of a spell candle, then burn that candle during our casting to release our amplified magickal energy into the universe and the physical world.
Candle Magick happens to be a personal favourite of mine and I use it, along with colour magick, quite often in my own castings and rituals. That said, if candle spells and other forms of candle magick are something that you are interested in, then definitely make sure to stay tuned because I plan on releasing several articles about candles and their magickal uses very soon!
But Where to Begin with Colour Magick?
Learning the basics of colour magick is vital for any young witch or beginner caster and will help you to improve upon and strengthen any energetic spells you are casting. Colour Magick is the art of knowing each of the unique properties of colours found throughout the natural world and using their specific vibrations to amplify your efforts.
There are a multitude of different ways that you can incorporate colour into your magickal practice – even on a daily basis! Therefore, in this series, we will be exploring all of the colour magick basics in the hopes that these articles may serve as a helpful guide for you as you walk along your own magickal path.
The Elements
To begin, let’s start by taking a closer look at the fundamental foundation of many spells – The Elements – and how they interact with the magickal vibrations of different colours.
Air – Air is the element that is most closely associated with the colour Yellow or Gold and is represented in the East of the sacred circle. In fact, the element of Air and thus the colours Gold and Yellow are said to embody the light of dawn and the sort of hopeful joy and bright energy that can be felt on a warm summer’s day.
Fire – Fire is the element that is most closely associated with the passionate colour of Red and is represented in the South of the sacred circle. Red magick symbolizes ambition, vitality, love, passion, courage, and transformation! Red carries a very powerful and intense energy that can overwhelm the inexperienced.
Water – Water is the element that is most closely associated with the soothing colour of Blue and is represented in the West of the sacred circle. This element and its corresponding shades of blue most strongly resonate with healing, compassion, emotion, wisdom, and tranquility.
Blue magick is useful for encouraging honest communication and developing trust as well as healing of old wounds or mental/emotional scars.
Earth – Earth is the element that is most closely associated with the colours Green and to a lesser extent, Brown, and is represented in the North of the sacred circle. The element of Earth and thus its corresponding shades of Green and Brown are both practical and grounded. It is the energy most necessary when hard work or re-focus is needed. Earth represents life in all of its many shades and stages.

It is curious and playful as well as sturdy and steadfast. The energy of Green magick is ever-flowing, like a sturdy tree branch in the wind, it may bend yet never break.
Spirit – And last but far from least there is the final element which resides in the very center of the sacred circle – the element of Spirit. Spirit represents the very soul of the caster, their center, and where they derive their magickal force or power from. It is our spirit that sets our intentions and casts them into motion to manifest change in our daily lives.
The element of Spirit is most closely associated with the colour White. White magick is, in essence, pure positive energy. The power of White magick is calming, healing, cleansing, and strong. It never wavers.
The Days of the Week
Each day of the week has its own colour and ruling planet.
